Today was the Kite Festival

Every year at this time the Dixie Escalante Electric Company puts on a kite festival. It is basically to congratulate all the grade school kids for reading. Early in the school year each child gets a form to fill out with the amount time that they read daily. When the kids bring their finished form to the kite festival they trade it in for a kite. The kites this year were pretty cool. They actually had a price tag on them of $6.99. We went with one of our neighbors and their kids and had a fun time. It was really windy, too windy to fly the kites, but we tried anyway and got two kites all tangled up together. It was pretty hot outside. It felt good with the wind blowing, except when it blew sand in our faces. They hold the kite festival on a golf course and make you park in a rocky, dirt area. They had one of those water trucks spraying the dirt down, but then it just turned that sprayed area into mud. It wasn't too much fun trying to push strollers through that. I did put sunblock on all the kids and part of myself, but I forgot to put sunblock on the back of my neck and I got really burned. We were only there for about 2 hours, but it doesn't take long.

Here's the kite that Thomas picked out. It has a long tail with little lizards all down it.

This picture was something that they were doing for free with a green screen behind us and after they took the picture the background shows up. It turned out pretty cute. Our neighbor's little girl was wearing a green shirt and when their picture came out the background was on her shirt. It was pretty funny.

They also have a little area where the kids can play free games and get little (junky) prizes. The kids love it though.

fun stuff! I love the pictures of the kids playing the games. We didn't really do that! The kids were more interested in the slide...then we just kind of forgot to go back! Oh well! Yeah, the wind was a bit much!

That sounded like fun. I miss the warm weather. It has been snowing every couple of days up here. Cute pictures of the kids and you.

It looks like you guys had lots of fun. I took my mom to buy some shirts since my aunt and uncle who are living with them right now shrunk ALL her hang-dry work clothes!!! She was so upset she sat in the bathroom and just bawled. Poor thing.
Anyhoo...
